What is Sensory Processing Disorder?
SPD is a condition in which the brain has trouble receiving, processing and responding to information that comes through the senses. Some people can be oversensitive to things in their environment such as sounds, light touch, or the smell of some foods. Other people may be under-responsive to sensations. Sensory integration therapy gives just the right amount of input in the right context to allow for better processing and responses. It also can include strategies to overcome anxiety related to sensitivities.
Does your child only eat certain foods? Does he gag at the smell of certain foods? If your child is having difficulty expanding his food repertoire, accepting new foods, and eating various textures he may need feeding therapy to address these concerns. Our approach to feeding therapy supports the parent-child relationship and the child's individual sensory preferences with just the right amount of challenge. We allow the child to gain confidence and skills along the way.
Therapeutic Listening is a comprehensive, multi-faceted sound-based approach that involves listening to electronically modified music to highlight the parts of th sound spectrum that naturally capture attention and activate body movement, synchronizing it with the environment.
